Banana’s Foster Smoothie

Let’s talk about dessert for a minute. Banana’s Foster french toast has to be one of my favorite, dessert for breakfast kind of combos. Bananas, caramel, sugary deliciousness, what’s not to love? Buuuuuttttt, since it is so sweet, I can’t have it on a regular basis, so I came up with an alternative. A healthy smoothie that tastes like the real thing. This recipes calls for some vanilla yogurt for an extra protein kick and some Medjool dates for that caramel goodness.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 frozen bananas
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soymilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 OIKOS Vanilla Triple Zero Greek Yogurt (5.3 oz)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 Medjool dates (pitted and soaked in water)

Directions:

I want to address the Medjool dates first, this is going to be our healthy “caramel” alternative. The dates have to be pitted (just cut them down the center and take out the pit) and soaked in water. I soaked mine for about 2 or 3 hours before I made the smoothie, but the longer the better. The longer you soak them, the more it will bring out the natural sugars and when the dates are blended, it will taste just like delicious caramel!

Combine all ingredients in a blender (including the water the dates were soaked in) and blend for about 30 seconds until all the ingredients are mixed well. Pour into a glass, jar, or cup and enjoy!
